AEgis built the 6×6 version of IVECO Puma armored personnel carrier for our favorite Euro customer’s model library back in 2006. It is a quite modern vehicle design, available with 4 or 6 wheels, and can be equipped, with a variety of turret options, including the ‘Hitrole’ remote weapon station.
In the late 1960s flying over Vietnam, they called it ‘the golden BB’. It was a random unlucky enemy shot that could hit your aircraft in just the wrong spot, or you. A golden BB was usually something to worry about when cruising along at a comfortable altitude, maybe at night, mostly out of range of aimed concentrated triple-A, (AAA, or Anti-Aircraft- Artillery).
HMS Ocean departed late September 2016 for a 6.5 month deployment to serve as Fleet Flagship of coalition naval strike operations against the Islamic State. Despite this prominent mission, this could well be her last deployment, as despite a recent $100 million upgrade, the 20 year old amphibious assault ship has a date with the Turkish scrapyard 2018.
The first 737 NG with ‘blended winglets’ flew in September 2000. Winglets were built into the following C-40 production, and retrofitted to those already in service. Wait…, what? Blended Winglet?
The Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel is a still largely classified US surveillance UAV with the characteristics of a low radar cross section or ‘stealth’ aircraft. Little was known of its existence prior to some grainy photos at the Kandahar airport in Afghanistan in 2007. Dubbed then, by a senior editor at Aviation Week magazine; ‘The Beast of Kandahar’.
